If you do not want to buy expensive, pre-packed HPLC columns for changing applications, then a column packing station might be the better choice.

Column packing stations are used for preparative liquid chromatography up to production scale. With your own column packing station, you can easily pack HPLC columns yourself, for example with packing material from O-CP.

The column packing station consists of the column tube, the packing stand and the hydraulic system for driving the piston to compress the column material, which is mixed with solvent to form an emulsion (slurry) and poured into the column tube.

In order to form a homogeneous column bed in the column tube, the slurry has to be stirred very well beforehand. We offer a tank with agitator for large quantities of slurry. A thermal jacket is available as an option to control the temperature of the column tube.

There are two suitable packing techniques.

With DAC technology (Dynamic Axial Compression), the column bed remains under pressure during the chromatography, so that pressure differences are balanced out and the column bed remains optimally packed by automatic adjustment of the piston.

With SAC technology (Static Axial Compression), the column is closed after packing, can then be removed from the column packing station and added to a seperate HPLC system and used there.

All column packing stations are also suitable for applications in Ex-areas.
